Why are UGG boots so popular?

I've been asking myself the same question since these boots hit the shelves! Personally I think they are called UGG boots solely because they are UGLY. Sure they are a cute little fashion statement if worn with the right outfit. However, they are not cute when worn with sweatpants tucked into them. They are not cute when 4 out of 5 girls walking down the street are wearing them with the exact same outfit on! Where is the individuality in that?

Yes, they are warm, but so are wool socks! You'll see females today walking around in cute little sweater dresses or knits tops with their classic black leggings and the UGGs...what season are you going for? Its either winter or summer. You cannot mix both! Are you wearing the boots to keep your feet warm or solely to become part of an ever so played out fashion statement?

Despite the fashion taste, or lack thereof, Ugg boots are ridiculously expensive for a pair of boots that have no contour, no design and no identity. Fashion is supposed to be a form a self expression. So again, why does everyone look the same? Maybe I would not be so against these plain boots if they came in different styles. But the only difference between the boots are the 4 colors they come in or the latest style of ribbed Uggs!

You can find these boots on females of all ages, from toddlers to middle aged women. Not to say that fashion has an age limit, but do you commonly see women over 30 wearing Juicy Coutour suits? No because the sensible leave that fashion trend to the youth; where it should be! I personally would not feel comfortable walking out of my house with the same boots my mother and younger sister are wearing! They are not family heirlooms, they are fairly new fashion trend, which normally means the generation of that time should be the only people sporting the trend.

What makes these boots even worse than draining the identity out of females, is that some chose to wear them in the workplace with business clothes. Not appropriate. Business attire calls for flats or heels, not Uggs. Although dress pants are not tucked into the boot, females who chose to wear them to work, do not realize that they are dragging their dress pants all over the floor because there is not enough lift from their shoes. What's next? Dress pants and Timberlands?

If this is the fashion statement of the Millennium, what will be the fashion trend of the future? Burlap shoes? Oh no that's right, that was last years fashion statement! What is this world coming to? I strongly believe that the designers of today are so focused on starting trends that they fail to realize how many insecure people there are in this world. How many females truly believe that wearing the latest trend will give them some kind of boost in society. Honestly, it is these types of people who keep these boots going.
