So ... I have this theory about the decline in good quality music these days. As the saying goes, "real recognize real," with that being said ... Where are all the REAL artists? Rest in Peace to the legends that spoiled us like Big L, Biggie, Pac, Aaliyah. Then you have those (who we won't mention) who can't stay out of jail long enough to make an album - and of course you have the very few, like Hov, Em, Fab, Jada, Drake (and the newcomers) that still remain holding us down like they've always done; in the pool with everyone else.
BUT... it's not enough! Did you ever wonder how songs like "Chicken Noodle Soup," or "LOL Smiley Face" got so much air time? Or how Justin Bieber is doin traxx with the the greats before he's even hit puberty? Because we have more followers than leaders these days, people will listen to whatever the person next to them is listening to. Good music is good music, despite the genre it falls into. Yet, there's very few "good ears for music" left in the world. We're all listening to the same 5 song radio rotation! Nah, here me out!
This is how one could tell a fake artist (someone who ain't done shit in their lyrics) from the real deal. Listen to track after track ... album (or mixtape, these days) after album. Do they change? Or do the carry the same swag through the same lyrics on different beats? Mary J Blige and Fab are perfect examples. Now these are two swagged out people. Anyone who has listened to Mary J over the years has followed her ups and downs through her albums. From "I'm Goin Down" to "My Life" to "Stronger with Each Tear," we've watched Mary as she's feelin herself, losin herself and building herself back up to Diva status! Cuz she's real! Same swagged out women going through different trials and tribulations throughout her career. Fab hasn't shown us as defined of a roller coaster but he's kept his same swag while goin through his own motions (droppin better albums each and every time.) A real artists, gets better over time because they amster their own style. Shiit, we even watched (listened to) DMX go from DMX to "Crackhead Earl"! Yes, I'll jam to "Crackhead Earl" before I will ever jam to "Wacka Flacka You're a Cornball"!
Am I proving my point yet? Music is something that we can escape into - something that could be uplifting, reassuring or just flat out motivating. ARTISTS ~~~> Please stop fucking it up for those of us who are true music heads who listen to your words and not just hear them. And for Christ's sake, if you know you can't rhyme, please stop using the good beats!!! I'm sick of downloading the instrumental just cuz I cant stand your wack ass lyrics! If this keeps up, I swear I'm gonna start remixin'... first single ..."Penis, Money, Weed!"
And I'm mocking everyone on that track! Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha!!
