Hurricane Earl: Threat or Ploy?

Now that Friday has finally come and I'm not under water or being blown away by 150 mile an hour winds; I'm beginning to think. Was there ever really a threat for a category 4 hurricane or was this week of warning just a ploy to have us all run out and buy supplies to boost the economy? Hmmmm .... I wonder.

Like everyone else, I've been glued to the weather channel all week. Patiently waiting to see how my Labor Day weekend was going to be ruined! Of course the evacuation scare had me worried too. But what happened? It went from a category 4 down to a category 2?!?!? That's a big jump in hurricane terms. Of course the news used words such as "if," "in case," and my personally favorite, "allegedly," but the emphasis they put on this hurricane hitting Long Island completely negated any word they could have used in their warnings.

The stores have been crazy all week. People buying canned foods, candles, propane and milk! Now this is where I started laughing. If a hurricane or any other natural disaster hit us, the electricity is bound to be the first to go out. With that being said, why would you stock up on milk? It's been between 90 and 100 degrees for the last 4 days... if in fact the power went out, why would you want hot milk? Do you know what that milk would smell like by the time the power was restored?!?!? Some people kill me with their ignorance!

In any case. I hope everyone is prepared for whatever winds and rains may hit us. The way I see it, this "possible category 4," may just grace us as the common NorEasters we get every year!

Thanks for the scare Weatherman!
