The Ugly Truth

Although most of the time, we don't like to face the ugly truth of things, (most of the time it's the truth about ourselves,) at some point, we have to. Now this truth may come in the form of why every relationship you have has failed. It may be the underlying reason why you always have a problem with coworkers. It could even be the fact that you always seem to find the one person in the room who has the most issues. All these things will continue to happen to you unless you realize the vibe you are feeding into the universe. Yea I said it, if you think for one second that what you put out there isn't going to be returned to you at some point, you are never going to get off the roller coaster you've been on.

The truth of the matter is that we were all given the same basic gifts; a mind, a voice and a heart. It is what we choose to do with those gifts that separates us from the next guy! You have a voice but you don't speak when someone disappoints you, disrespects you or just flat out lies to you. You have a mind, yet you still stay at a dead end job; overworked and underpaid. You want to see the good in people to such a point that you have allowed people to take away from the good in you. Bitterness is a bitch, especially when it is harbored. No one deserves to spend their days coasting through the life of someone else. You have your own life and the same opportunities that were available to your boss, are available to you, if you seek them out. It all starts with motivation.

If you want to be your own boss, go to the damn County Clerk's Office, and fill out the paperwork. If you want to live happily ever after, it's possible, if you love yourself enough to make yourself happy! Now there's a thought that many have forgotten (or never knew in the first place.) Love yourself. How the hell do you expect people to see you for more than how you see yourself? That don't even sound right. Inside, you may feel like you can run an office, maintain a household and care for your family efficiently. Yet, what you show the world is that you only do what you are paid to do at work, you go home and bitch about having to make dinner after working all day and when you're significant other wants some quality time, you claim a headache and go to sleep. Get the picture? If you're capable of doing it, if you want to do it, then get the fuck up an do it. Or stop expecting other people to do it for you.

Life is a bitch. No argument there. But at the end of the day, so are you so you two should get along just fine! Just keep in mind that every person who you allow to disrespect you or take advantage of you is bound to tell someone else what happened. They may not make a big deal out of it but they will tell someone. There will always be another witness to what you allowed someone to do to you. That opens up the door for someone else to treat you the same. If you allowed it to happen without checking it at the door, you can't complain about it. I'm not saying that you should swing on every person who violates you in some way. But open your damn mouth. Just remember if you open your mouth more than twice and never put your words into action; it will be treated as if you never said anything at all. Empty words are worth just as much as silence. It doesn't do shit. At least staying quiet doesn't make you look stupid!

Moral of the story ... know your worth and don't ever let anyone treat you any less!

Air It Out - Things I CAN'T STAND

I have to be the weirdest person in the world because things that should bother me .. don't phase me in the least, but stupid, stupid things bother the shit out me. Let's see who else feels the same about the following things ... maybe I'm not so weird!

1. Little boys who try to act like grown men.

2. That hard ass burp that comes out when you brush your tongue too hard.

3. When fast food is cold 2 seconds after the serve it to you.

4. People who claim they can do something and then tell you at the last minute that they can't.

5. Guys who don't give up their seat for women and old people.

6. When the person in front of you sees you coming but proceeds to not hold the door for you.

7. People who step on your shoes, bump into you or walk in front of you and don't say excuse me.

8. LIARS!!!

9. People who let their children run rampant in the store, in the street or let their children walk behind them .... how the fuck are you watching your children if they are behind you?

10. When someone tells me I can't do something. Are you me? How would you know what I can and cannot do? Do you know what my last name is? I can do whatever I try to do!

11. This number just makes me want to throw up!

12. Acquaintances that try to act like their your best friend ... when they want something.

13. People who keep a million bottles of soda in the closet and none in the fridge! What sense does that make?

14. The fact that only the nails on one of my hands grows evenly.

15. People who always ask for a cigarette before they even say hello. And the people who ask for a bust down ... just take the damn cig man....

16. Black socks! Especially on guys ... unless you got slacks on ... you're feet are ugly enough as it is ... please keep it to white socks!

17. Text messages that just say "ok" is as equally annoying as Caller ID Blocks

18. Running for the phone only to find it's someone you don't want to talk to.

19. When ex's try to make a comeback

20. When someone who doesn't pay your bills tries to tell you what you should be doing with your money! I'm sorry, did I ask for your opinion?

Marijuana: Gateway Drug?

The other day, I was speaking to an older gentleman about the use of cannabis by young people. His opinion was one that I come across quite often: If youths are allowed to smoke marijuana, what stops them from experimenting with other drugs, such as heroin or cocaine, that (unlike marijuana) can result in permanent, if not fatal, damage to the user? (this kind of thinking is what causes marijuana to be called the “Gateway Drug”)

Here’s what I told this person, and what I think you should tell anyone who thinks that using marijuana would lead people to try using life-threatening drugs such as heroin and cocaine.

1. While scientists have long held the “gateway drug” theory to be erroneous, a study at the University of Pittsburgh in December 2006 proved that “the likelihood that someone will transition to the use of illegal drugs is determined not by the preceding use of a particular drug, but instead by the user’s individual tendencies and environmental circumstances. The use of marijuana is no more an indicator of further drug use than cigarettes, chocolate or coffee.

Teens that use cannabis may function better than teen tobacco-users, and appear to be more socially driven and have fewer psychosocial problems than those who do not use either substance, according to a Swiss survey.

Researchers at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland surveyed 5,263 students, including 455 who smoke marijuana only, 1,703 who smoke marijuana and tobacco and 3,105 who smoked neither one.

The survey, which will be published in the November issue of Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, found that marijuana-only smokers had better relationships with friends, better grades and were more likely to play sports than teens who smoked tobacco and those who abstained from both substances.

A U.S. substance abuse expert disagreed with the study and said U.S. teens should not be encouraged to use marijuana, particularly since teenagers’ brains are still developing at this time.

“Switzerland is very liberal compared to us in many ways,” Dr. Edwin Salsitz, senior physician of chemical dependency at Beth Israel Medical Center. “In general, it’s not a good idea for teenagers to use psychoactive drugs. The brain is still developing until the age of 21.

“Maybe (there’s) a cultural bias there that says it’s ok to use marijuana once or twice a month,” he continued “But from what I know, I’ve never heard that anyone thought it was beneficial. Most experts here would say that it’s not a good idea to use cannabis before the age of 15, because it interferes with school and the development of brain.”

It's 2010 lets face the facts marijuana is HARMLESS RELAX! See Bill Hicks comedy post for more details on this topic.

Ground Zero Mosque Open To All?

I wasn't going to bring religion or politics onto this blog but with all the hype in the media, I have to. This is something that needs to be discussed thoroughly before any solid plans are made. I'm not gonna lie, the thought of putting a mosque anywhere near Ground Zero sickens me. After everything that happened, all the lives that were lost that day, and the lives that are gradually being taken to this day, from the diseases that were transmitted from cleaning up that day, you have the audacity to put a mosque there?

Like every other aspect of prejudice, I know we can't judge an entire culture by the actions of just a portion of the culture. BUT, terrorism is no joke! Those people who attacked us that day, lived right next door to us, worked right beside us; plotting on us the entire time. So let's build them a "spy zone" to make their spy operation easier! Are you serious? I swear if it wasn't an assault charge, I would really go on a slap-a-politician spree just to knock some sense into them!

While reading the paper the other day though, I came across an article about the mosque that I actually agree is a great idea. Elie Wiesel, a Nobel Laureate, suggested to make the mosque open to ALL religions. The blueprint is damn sure big enough to accomplish his idea. Why not? After everything we've been through as a country, why not unite in prayer? We're all praying for the same thing, we just have different beliefs. As people, we are all entitled to the right to freedom of religion, despite who we pray to. I think having one unified place that everyone could go, no matter what religion they practice, is priceless. It would, in a far fetched way, give people the opportunity to explore different religions just by visiting a different room or floor. Do you understand what an impact that could have?

I'm not saying it will open up the floor for religious conversion, but it would present a huge opportunity for us to understand the different religions instead of just being ignorant to any religion that isn't our own. What better place to have an establishment like this, then the City, the ultimate Melting Pot of NY!?!? This idea came from a man whose "foundation was robbed of $35 million by Bernard Madoff..."; robbed and still trying to unite! That is the true definition of faith. Even after he was a victim, he hasn't lost his faith in people! This is without a doubt the type of person we need. Someone who is not going to focus on the negative that's already happened, but someone who will take the negatives into consideration to develop a game plan on what we need to make sure history does not repeat itself!

Let's face it, the world gets more and more fucked up everyday. Ever ask yourself why? Because people stop believing in people and more importantly, they stop believing in themselves! The mind is a very powerful thing, if you think the worst, the worst is sure to happen. I learned that from watching The Secret. The universe hears everything you dish out to it; even when no one is around to witness. And I think it's very amusing that half the people who are against the idea of a unified place of worship, don't even go to church or to temple, or anywhere. They don't even pray at home. So who are you to have any say in where or how other people show their faith?

Yup, once again ... Jo Jo Said It... deal with it. You don't like what I'm saying, leave a comment!

Know Your Own Flaws!

Think about this question for a minute ...

How much easier life would be if we knew (before getting to know someone), what their flaws were? The world would be a much better place right? WRONG!!! Knowing someone else's flaws won't help you any unless you are aware of YOUR OWN FLAWS! Let's face facts here for a minute, no one knows us better than we know ourselves. With that being said, why is it our human nature to expect those who are closest to us, to know things that we ourselves, haven't come to grips with yet?

Let's look at some quick examples. If you know that you are a jealous person when it comes to your relationship; why would you date a Stripper? If you know that you have 2 children to take care of; why would you accept a job that only pays $7 an hour? Why? Because not only do you like making yor own life harder ... YOU have not yet accepted your own flaws.

In order to have any type of relationship (friendships and business relationships included), one must know themselves and be comfortable with themselves. It's like the old saying goes, "You can't be happy with someone else if you are not happy with yourself." Lord, I wish I knew who actually said that! I would love to shake their hand! If we all owned up to our personal flaws, we would be able to see clearly how much our flaws really do affect our daily lives.

Any self-help book will tell you that the first step to solving a problem is to first admit that you have one! If you can identify your own flaws, it will be that much easier to take the necessary steps to overcome them.

Short, simple and to the point! ~~~> Jo Jo Said It !!

Hurricane Earl: Threat or Ploy?

Now that Friday has finally come and I'm not under water or being blown away by 150 mile an hour winds; I'm beginning to think. Was there ever really a threat for a category 4 hurricane or was this week of warning just a ploy to have us all run out and buy supplies to boost the economy? Hmmmm .... I wonder.

Like everyone else, I've been glued to the weather channel all week. Patiently waiting to see how my Labor Day weekend was going to be ruined! Of course the evacuation scare had me worried too. But what happened? It went from a category 4 down to a category 2?!?!? That's a big jump in hurricane terms. Of course the news used words such as "if," "in case," and my personally favorite, "allegedly," but the emphasis they put on this hurricane hitting Long Island completely negated any word they could have used in their warnings.

The stores have been crazy all week. People buying canned foods, candles, propane and milk! Now this is where I started laughing. If a hurricane or any other natural disaster hit us, the electricity is bound to be the first to go out. With that being said, why would you stock up on milk? It's been between 90 and 100 degrees for the last 4 days... if in fact the power went out, why would you want hot milk? Do you know what that milk would smell like by the time the power was restored?!?!? Some people kill me with their ignorance!

In any case. I hope everyone is prepared for whatever winds and rains may hit us. The way I see it, this "possible category 4," may just grace us as the common NorEasters we get every year!

Thanks for the scare Weatherman!

The 3 Reasons for Sex In Relationships

Now, everyone knows that having casual sex when you're single is much different than having sex while in a relationship. There is no rhyme or reason for having just casual sex.... you're both feelin' each other in that moment ... nuff said.

Once you're in a relationship, however, especially one that has stretched passed that 2 year mark; the rules for sex changes dramatically!

Here's the 3 "Golden Reasons" ...

Hate/Make Up Sex - Never underestimate or take advantage of this rule. This is probably the best sex you will ever have, in my personally opinion. I'm not gonna lie, like many females, sometimes just to spice things up a bit, I'll pick a fight over something stupid just to apologize and engage that ever-so-fun Make Up Sex session!

Mutual Sex - Pretty self explanatory. Just because you've been together forever doesn't mean you'll never again be in the mood at the same time! Mutual sex is whatever you make it. I refer to this as just plain sex, routine... pretty much normal.

Now everyone pay attention to this last one. It is the MOST IMPORTANT and the MOST NEGLECTED!!!!

Body Cavity Sex - Now, people, listen up! Whether you are male or female this Golden Rule WILL apply to you at some point in your relationship. When you enter in a relationship, you are entering into an unwritten contract to take care of each other. This includes sexual needs. There is going to come a time where only one of you is "in the mood." It is, I repeat, the obligation (and common courtesy) of their partner to be the body cavity. Take one for the team, so to speak! At the end of the day, you do love the person and are attracted to them or else you wouldn't be with them. So, just lay there if you must and let your partner get that release! Trust me, avoiding the attitude that will surely come after you deny your partner that release (on top of all the obvious perks of sex) will be well worth it.

Ladies, whether you want to admit it or not, we get just as cranky and testy as men if we haven't had sex. It's human nature. Embrace it, deal with it and learn to live with it! And if you find yourself in the position where you're just not in the mood to have sex and your man is rubbing up on you trying to get you in the mood ~~~> Just play Pillow Princess and let him to the work. If you go that entire "session" just waiting for it to be over ... I'd re-evaluate how you really feel about your man ...

Remember .... tell em Jo Jo Said It!!!!

Don't Flatter Yourself

There are some things in life that we are just not meant to figure out. For example, why is it that "friends," hide emotions? Now I say this on many different levels, which you all know I'm about to break down for you! In my almost 28 years in this world, I've noticed that these "emotion hiding friends" only hide there emotions in certain situations.

The "I fell for you" Emotion
This has to be the most annoying situation one can find themselves in. Now I understand that we are all human and cannot help who we fall for. BUT, if someone trusts you as their friend, they confide in you. Do not break that trust by catching feelings for that person, and hiding them. the longer you wait in this situation (without exposing your true feelings,) the more abrupt your friendship is going to end. Personally, I would rather know how you really feel so I can pick and chose (if I want to) what advice I ask you for. If I know you have feelings for me, I'm not going to trust your opinion about who I'm dating because your opinion will always be biased based on the way you feel for me. This is not a true friend!

The "I'm ashamed of myself" Emotion
Now, although this example is one of many I could have used. We all have that one friend who lies about the dumbest shit, (i.e. who they're sleeping with, how much money they make, who they know...) so we can all relate to this category. What you do, is what you do! Why lie to someone else about something, that in all essence, doesn't affect them in the least?!?!? I don't care who you are sleeping with, unless of course it's the same person I'm sleeping with (or have slept with.) If you want to be a smut, that's cool... for you! Why lie to me about it? Bottom line, if you're out with your girls, and one of your girls gets a booty all (pretty common), just keep it funky! If you find yourself lying to your girls and saying some dumb shit like, "I gotta run home, my mom needs me," YOU are ashamed of whoever you now running to! Again, I ask "Why?" your girls aren't supposed to judge you. We're supposed to make fun of you, then laugh with you of course!

And last but not least, my personal favorite (for entertainment purposes)...

The "I'm just not comfortable in my own skin" Emotion
This is the when it's pure comedy! Have you ever met someone who is so uncomfortable in their own skin that they lie, lie, and lie some more?!?!? They'll be sitting with you talking about their favorite color is blue. Then you catch them talking to someone else about how their favorite color is red?!!? WHAT?!?!? there is no perfect example I can give you to define these people because anyone who knows them knows, if it comes out of their mouth... you have to research it before you believe it! Horrible way to live and these people find themselves only being invited to places by people who either don't really know them or just can't get rid of them!

So the moral of this story is this...
Be comfortable with yourself, know how to express yourself (and when to for that matter) and of course, if you call someone a friend ... it's because you trust them ... show them that by speaking to them honestly and up front!!!

Spending My Day Off ... Like 1 of the Guys

Last night,  had to accept that I can never again yell, nag or complain about my boyfriend spending countless hours on his XBox. I woke up yesterday morning with that relieving feeling of knowing I was off from work. I made my morning coffee and updated all my websites as I always do. Yet afterwards, I decided to take advantage of my boyfriend being at work ... and play some XBox!

I started my Soul Calibur journey at 10am. Shortly after, I found myself slouching in my chair, feet up on the entertainment center, cursing at the TV, and occasionally even throwing my cigarettes and/or lighter across the room. Everything, in essence, I make fun of him for. It was 6pm before I even realized what I was doing and only when he had called to be picked up from the train station!

"Daaaaam! Where did my day go?" I was shocked. Had I turned into a "gamer" overnight? Is it possible to be a gamer when you only play one game? I don't know what I was more upset about, the fact that I had wasted an entire day playing a video game or the fact that I knew I could no longer bitch at him for doing it!

Almost a full 8 hours on ONE video game. I managed to rack up thousands of points (yet like a true female, I spent almost all of it on new characters, new weapons and of course, different outfits for each character!) I unlocked new powers and stages, all of which I spent an hour telling him about when he got home. After he laughed at me for that entire hour ... he played with me and all the new characters I had created!

The point of the story is this.... Ladies, instead of nagging your boyfriend to get off the console ...  jump in a play a game or two with him. You never know, you may actually like it! and, I promise, it will make his day =)

Stalker Status

I heard the most disturbing thing come out of someones mouth today! While I was listening to one of my guy friends rant n rave about his girlfriend, he said something to me that caught me completely off guard! Like every other young female, she decided to go out with her girls (which is perfectly healthy,) but she lied to him and told him she was home sick (typical smut move.) Although she was quite convincing, he knew she was lying because he GPS'd her phone ~~~~~> WHOOOOAAAAA! THIS is an absolute NO NO!!!

I do not care if you know for actual factual that ya girl/guy is lying to you. Under NO circumstance is it okay to track someone down like that! This is certified stalker status! If ya girl is lying to you over dumb shit like that...just dead her. You really don't want to be with someone who is so weak that they have to lie to you just to spend time with her girls? First off, I guarantee you that she was with someone else (not her girls!) Secondly, if she was with her girls, what was she doing with them that she felt she had to lie to you?

Male or female, take this advice... when someone lies to you... ask yourself the reason behind their lies. Someone once said that a lie is never told unless the truth is deemed more dangerous! WORDS TO LIVE BY!

As far as the "stalker status" goes, this is a trait that will follow you forever. You will now be thought of as the guy who stalks his girl down when she doesn't answer the phone or is out without supervision! She's not a toddler... if she needs supervision than she doesn't need to be your girl! Let someone else deal with that headache!

What does our gut feeling really tell us?

Did you ever walk into a room and your chest feels tight or your stomach feels queasy? Did you ever think that those feelings may be a sign to get your ass outta there.. stat? Most of us don't either! However, there are some of us who know their bodies well enough to know when their intuition is telling them to do (or not to do) something!

Human intution is an interesting topic. I have read many books on the subject and although it fascinates me, I too, do not always listen to my "gut feelings." Ladies, we have a tendency to not trust our own gut feelings just because our gut feelings, usually defies what our hearts are trying to accomplish. I always did find it funny how us females will not even hold a conversation with someone if we get that feeling that they're "bad news." BUT, we will however, stay with a guy for however long it takes him to play the shit out of us, only to turn around and say, "I knew he was cheatin'!" (And we really wonder why men call us emotionally impulsive!)

Yes! Our intuition is that unexplainable feeling that someone is cheating on us, lying to us or more commonly, not telling us the whole story (lying by omission.) But this intuition doesn't just kick in with relationships. Intuition, if we listen to it, could help us succeed in business, define toxic friendships, it can even help us leave the club/bar at just the right moment before a fight breaks out and those lovely cops show up just in time to ruin the night!

People always associate intuition with the emotion of love. But as I said, this isn't always the case. If you still think it does, do yourself a favor, pick yourself up a copy of the book, "The Art Of Seduction." You'll soon realize that your intuition, is really the weakest counterattack of a relationship!

Air It Out -Young Mothers Who Think They Know It All

Since we all currently find ourselves in the midst of the new "Baby Boom," I feel this topic is completely relevant to today's society. Personally, I feel that when it comes to the topic of motherhood, age cannot be considered a factor. I say this with sheer confidence because I've met 19 year olds who are more mature and headstrong than some 40 year olds, and vice versa, 40 year olds who still act like typical teenagers.

However, I've been seeing a lot of young mothers who truly feel that they know it all just because they gave birth ~~~> WHERE DID THEY GET THIS FROM????? If you find yourself falling into one of the following categories, please take the time (with an open mind) to listen to what I am saying....

If YOU:
1. ... are under the age of 25 and refuse to listen to the advice of your elders because YOU know what's best for your child.
2. ... went your entire pregnancy without going to the doctor or taking pre-natal vitamins
3. ... continued to smoke, drink or party during your pregnancy
4. ... bring your child out of the house before he/she reaches 3 months old
5. ... are struggling to raise the child you have but decided to get pregnant again.
6. ... sleep until 10am (without a baby monitor) while you're child is crying in the crib (which is in the other room)

Listen Ladies, I'm not trying to pass any judgment, BUT, learn to ask for help. You cannot go about living life the same exact way that you did BEFORE you had kids! It's not possible nor is it healthy for a child. Children, especially nowadays are too smart for their own good. they listen to your every word, watch your every move and use them as a guide to develop their own skills. Let's face facts, there is no Parenting Handbook (although there are countless books to use as guides,) in essence it really is a trial of process and elimination. However, you are not the first person in the world to raise a child and for you single parents out there, you are definitely not the first one to carry the load of parenting by yourself. But learn from not only your mistakes, but the mistakes of every parent who has come before you!

Now, let me elaborate on the points I've made above.

1. As much as we hate to admit it when we are younger, most of the time, the annoying advice that our parents give us growing up, WILL BE proven true at some point in our future. Listen to your elders, especially your own parent(s)...they did raise you, didn't they?!? Either learn from their success OR let their failure motivate you not to make the same mistakes they did.

2. Please don't give me the bs that you didn't have insurance. It's called PCAP!!!! You and your baby need to be seen by a medical doctor throughout your entire pregnancy!!!! End of story!

3. Aside from common sense, if you would have gone to the doctor or at least read any type of parenting book you would know why this is an absolute no-no!

4. Now this is a touchy subject. Some people say this is okay, others beg to differ. Speak to your physician on this one. I was always told that you are NOT supposed to bring a baby outside the house until he/she reached 3 months old and received their vaccinations. Some new studies beg to differ.

5. This is just self-explanatory and in my eyes, just plain ignorant. At the end of the day, your child is your responsibility. Just because you have a supportive alliance of friends and family (or know that there is aways government assistance) does not mean it's okay for you to bring a child into the world before you, yourself are able to take care of that child!

6. Do you really need me to speak on the dangers of this?!?!? I didn't think so. Just know that anything can happen, especially while a child sleeps. How would you feel if your child choked to death in their sleep and you didn't know because a) you slept that late and b) you didn't have a baby monitor to hear them?!?!?

I could go on about this topic forever but in the end, the only person you are hurting by your lack of good parenting skills is your child!

Why are UGG boots so popular?

I've been asking myself the same question since these boots hit the shelves! Personally I think they are called UGG boots solely because they are UGLY. Sure they are a cute little fashion statement if worn with the right outfit. However, they are not cute when worn with sweatpants tucked into them. They are not cute when 4 out of 5 girls walking down the street are wearing them with the exact same outfit on! Where is the individuality in that?

Yes, they are warm, but so are wool socks! You'll see females today walking around in cute little sweater dresses or knits tops with their classic black leggings and the UGGs...what season are you going for? Its either winter or summer. You cannot mix both! Are you wearing the boots to keep your feet warm or solely to become part of an ever so played out fashion statement?

Despite the fashion taste, or lack thereof, Ugg boots are ridiculously expensive for a pair of boots that have no contour, no design and no identity. Fashion is supposed to be a form a self expression. So again, why does everyone look the same? Maybe I would not be so against these plain boots if they came in different styles. But the only difference between the boots are the 4 colors they come in or the latest style of ribbed Uggs!

You can find these boots on females of all ages, from toddlers to middle aged women. Not to say that fashion has an age limit, but do you commonly see women over 30 wearing Juicy Coutour suits? No because the sensible leave that fashion trend to the youth; where it should be! I personally would not feel comfortable walking out of my house with the same boots my mother and younger sister are wearing! They are not family heirlooms, they are fairly new fashion trend, which normally means the generation of that time should be the only people sporting the trend.

What makes these boots even worse than draining the identity out of females, is that some chose to wear them in the workplace with business clothes. Not appropriate. Business attire calls for flats or heels, not Uggs. Although dress pants are not tucked into the boot, females who chose to wear them to work, do not realize that they are dragging their dress pants all over the floor because there is not enough lift from their shoes. What's next? Dress pants and Timberlands?

If this is the fashion statement of the Millennium, what will be the fashion trend of the future? Burlap shoes? Oh no that's right, that was last years fashion statement! What is this world coming to? I strongly believe that the designers of today are so focused on starting trends that they fail to realize how many insecure people there are in this world. How many females truly believe that wearing the latest trend will give them some kind of boost in society. Honestly, it is these types of people who keep these boots going.

The Truth Behind Texting

Like any new technology, texting is just another way we have created as a shortcut. Despite how you look at it, texting is a way to avoid a phone conversation. You may not necessarily be avoiding the person, but there is no way to deny you are avoiding the phone call. Texting is great when what you have to say to a person doesn't warrant a whole conversation. Why call a person to let them know you're outside their house when you can just send a quick text message?

On the flip side, texting is commonly used when you don't want to say something to a person, you'd rather just text it. Personally, I think this angle of texting starts more issues than it solves. The one thing about a conversation that a text message could never portray is emotion. Even with all the codes, abbreviations and smiley faces that are in rotation right now, the contents of a text message can easily be misinterpreted because they were not said. It's funny because even the phrase "ok" over a text could come off harsh and emotionless in certain situations.

Realistically speaking however, there are so many different types of people in the world, that it is hard to categorize why people text. Although I, personally, am a text-a-holic, I have my own specific reasons for avoiding phone conversations whenever possible. I am a Loan Officer, I work on the phones all day long. By the time I get off of work, the last thing I want to do is be on my phone! I will rudely decline your call only to text you and ask you what you wanted!

Texting rules out those awkward silent moments on the phone or the infamous space filling question of "what are you doing?" Of course there are those cases where a person will use text messages to avoid speaking to a specific person, but how often does that happen. Out of every 10 text messages you send, I think it's pretty safe to say only one or two was to avoid speaking to the person.

Text messaging can be a time saver or an argument starter depending on how a person utilizes it. I, myself am a victim of text messaging abuse, but hey, who isn't these days? Technology has advanced to such a point that there are phones on the market which dictate your voice into text messages! What will they think of next?

The Difference between GOOD and TOXIC Friends

At times it could be quite hard to determine the difference between a good friend and a toxic one. Human nature tends to push us toward being naive and not seeing the bad in people; especially in a friend. Though the fact still lies that everyone is not exactly what they seem and human nature could also lead us to look out for ourselves before anyone else; survival of the fittest.

A friend is someone who listens to what you say. A good friend listens to what you don't say. Yet, a toxic friend, harbors over your every word and repeats it to whoever else will listen! In this world, it is more common to encounter or realize more toxic friends and acquaintances than good ones. There are so many old wives tales and typical advice from your grandmother about choosing friends and maintaining healthy friendships. It is not until you are forced into a position you never thought you'd be in with a friend, that you remember everything your grandmother or mother told you. Then you find yourself hating to say they told you so.

I was watching a Tyler Perry movie one day and amongst all the other morals and ethics the script tried to convey, he used the metaphor of trees to describe the different types of people who could enter ones life. It could not have been said more effectively. There are some people who come into our lives like the leaves on the branches; only there seasonally and fall off with the slightest of a breeze. There are others who come like branches and however strong they may look, they snap when pressure is applied. Then you have the roots. Despite how big the tree is, it only needs a few good roots to maintain it's stability. And the different types of friends were explained.

Everyone knows how hard it can be to determine what type of friend you have. Everyone has that friend that gets "bypassed." The friend that everyone knows lacks the ability to be discreet, the friend who can't be trusted with secrets, can never hold a job, or is never there on time. To each his own. When attempting to differentiate what type of friend you are dealing with, one must only look at the persons actions against them; what directly affects that immediate relationship. Everyone has their faults and flaws. A toxic friend puts their own faults and flaws onto everyone they come into contact with.

A true friend walks in when the rest of the world walks out. A quote I have always remembered and tried my hardest not to take for granted. We all have times where we feel that we give more to someone or something than we get back. We all feel at times that we run for certain people who never seem to be around when you need them. We must look at these times and these situations when we question what type of friendship we have with a person. I have always known the type of relationship I have with a person, negative or positive. I have always known what my limits are with that person, even to the sense of knowing who will win the argument. Though a real friend can be seen when that person speaks of you with someone else when you're not there.

A real friend will always defend you and your existence even when you're not there to defend yourself. Right or wrong. I've learned that even when I'm wrong, my real friends will defend me and confront me later. Real friends are hard to come by, but they are even harder to keep when you don't realize their true meaning.

Why Men DON'T Prefer Skinny Women

For every Jack there is a Jill! Yes, it is a little bit more comfortable to hug someone with more flesh than bone. Though, I think instead of doing surveys of a man's most preferred size of a woman, they should have been doing a survey on the reasons woman obsess of losing weight! Those results would be much more interesting. While men might prefer a woman with more meat on her bones, the rest of the world is painting fairy tale pictures of gorgeous super models with frail limbs and flat stomachs; implying that is what men want. If you were to put a "thicker" presence into that image, society would say it looks "out of place." I think society, as a whole and not as a specific gender needs to alter their image of perfection. There is no perfect size because their is not one definition of perfect. To one person perfect may be 190lbs standing 5'5", or it could be 115lbs standing 5'9". We need to start focusing on what people could bring to the table and not how they look sitting there!

The Difference between Love and Infatuation

Unfortunately for us, human nature makes it quite hard sometimes to differentiate between love and infatuation. Personally, looking at any relationship from an outside perspective, it's actually quite easy to determine the difference! If you love someone with all your heart and that person has either never loved you back or stopped loving you back (and you continue to convince yourself otherwise) you, my dear, are infatuated! Love is a two way street, anything less is not only borderline dangerous, but it could be borderline obsession!

There is not one person in this world that loves themselves enough that they could "make up for" that mutual love between two people. I've found that in relationships which are based on infatuation rather than true love, you will witness much more jealousy and attachment than you would in a healthy relationship. Becoming too "clingy" to a person usually goes hand in hand with being infatuated with them. Relationships that start out healthy, based on moral reason, could take a gradual turn for the worse as one party become more attached to the other. Again, our human nature forces us to act out in certain ways based on our emotions. In most scenarios, this could be a sad ending to a story once compared to a fairy tale.

In attempts to keep ourselves in line and far from falling victim of infatuation, we need to maintain self control; see things for what they really are. Everyone wants to be happy, but happiness can only be forced for so long, if it's possible at all. Of course, we are all happy when we see the people we love happy. Yet even that happiness can only fulfill us for so long before realizing, we are always giving and never receiving. Although the responsibilities of most relationships are not equally divided 50/50, the main objective is to maintain 50/50 effort at all times. Try not to get too caught up in materialistic efforts or results.

Being a woman myself, I am confident (but not proud) to say that we tend to find ourselves on the "clingy" end much more than men do! Why, you ask? Because men are built to think with their minds and not their emotions. Thus making it much easier to keep their eyes on reality instead of what their heart has already pre-determined was"meant to be."

Although these opinions are just that, opinions, and they are not rules written in stone, I think it's safe to say we can chose what side of the love spectrum we find ourselves on by paying attention to our surroundings. know yourself and the person you are with. It is up to no one else but the two of you to pave the path. There is a fork in the road of every relationship, just remember that simple decisions could lead you towards the wrong side of the fork!

Staying Friends with your EX?!?

Befriending your ex....a good idea or a doomed destiny?

Depends on the grounds the original relationship was based on. For example, if a relationship was based solely on sexual attraction, as failed relationships tend to be, there is no chance for a true friendship afterwards. This is simply because that same attraction would negate a strictly platonic friendship. However, if a relationship was based on a friendship, which most relationships should be, then of course it is a possibility to continue that friendship in the future. Now, whether that friendship could continue directly after the intimate relationship ending depends on the individual couple. Not all couples are strong enough for this "after-friendship." Personally, I believe that the lack of friendships after relationships derives from how emotional us women tend to be.

Of the failed relationships I have had, it was not possible to stay friends with most of my exes. However, my most recent ex is now one of my best friends. Why? Because friendship is how we based our relationship. When it comes to relationships, everything is not always hearts and flowers. You share good times together, endure bad times provoked by each other and then you live out and cherish the times that you are just regular people together. To me, there is nothing more precious that being in a relationship with someone who you can just sit back and enjoy life with; not just as your spouse but as your friend.

In a perfect world, every failed relationship could at least end in a lasting friendship. However, maintaining a friendship with your ex does not solely depend on the people who were in that relationship. Meddling with your ex could very well weigh a heavy burden on your present relationship. Since not everyone can handle a platonic relationship with their ex, not everyone could understand those who can....and do. Let's look at the pros and cons.

From a female perspective, the biggest benefit of having your ex as a friend is like having your own personal inside trader. It is a person who knows you as a friend and as a girlfriend. Coming from a woman, we tend to go about life as if we do nothing wrong. We move into the next relationship without ever taking responsibility for what we did wrong in the last one. Having your ex as a friend could in fact help us to realize that we are making the same mistakes in our present relationships that we did in our past relationships. The same goes for guys as well. However, guys having their ex as a friend may work more advantageously because we females are the more complex gender. With that being said, it is much safer for a man to have such an "inside trader!"

On the negative side of this aspect, there will always come a time in the new relationship that the significant other (usually the female) gets jealous of the exes friendship. In these situations everyone involved must realize that at the end of the day, the ex is an "ex" for a reason! Everyone knows relationships always flow much smoother when there are no strings attached. Me personally, my ex was never as understanding as he became AFTER we broke up! It is that understanding that makes his friendship and opinion so dear to me now. Yes, the history one would have with their ex can at times be a valid reason for jealousy but this is where the trust in your new relationship plays a huge role. If a person, male or female, feels threatened by their spouses ex, it usually is a sure tell sign of instability in that relationship.

While catching up with an old friend who had gotten married since the last time I saw her, compared her marriage to having a sleepover every night with her best friend! THAT, is how every relationship should be, not just newlyweds or relationships that are still in the courting stage. The bottom line is, anything is possible depending on the individual. If you are still attracted to your ex or more gravely, still in love with your ex, it is probably best NOT to be friends with them. But, use your own judgement. This is not one of those questions that have a consensus answer. What works for one person or couple, may not work for another. That is the beauty of us all being different!

Air It Out Part 1

Since I have an opinion about everything, I've decided to share...

1. Why ask me if you look fat only to call me a bitch when I say yes! Real friends tell you yes when others would let you rock with a shirt that's blatantly too small.

2. It is much more amusing (and respectable) to tell the truth so why lie?

3. Females need to get approximately 6,000 words out per day (about 2,000 of them are actually important) ...just get over it and listen

4. If a person hasn't answered your calls in 6 months after telling you to lose their number...why are you still calling them? You are not important enough for me to change my number.

5. Domino's Lava Crunch Cake is the best stuff on earth...forget bout Snapple!

6. You cannot fault people for occasionally falling victim of human nature...but when human nature becomes an excuse for disloyalty and sheer retardation...u need to beat that person upside their head...the next person will thank you!

7. Mule kicks are great! So is throwin someone a quick Donkey Kong! (For those with the screwface on right now...a Donkey Kong is when you make a fist and bop someone on the top of their head ever so gently! lmao)

8. If everyone was the same there would not be two friends in the world...embrace people's differences

9. Never take those you love for granted...we are not promised tomorrow, why take the chance to have regrets of what you could have done or said today!

10. What goes around comes around... Reality is a concrete boomerang

11. Since the truth hurts maybe people should stop lying to themselves...makes it easier when someone else tells you how it is!

12. Even though I am the ringleader of this...it is still wrong...There are millions of ugly people in the world...we really shouldn't comment on them!

13. Minute Maid Cherry Limeade ROCKS!!!

14. I don't care if you are my husband or GOD himself (or herself) ... it is NEVER okay to eat my food without permission!

15. We were all born alone and we will all die alone... that should give us more of a reason to let people in so we leave a piece of us with them when it's our time to go.

16. Time is one of the only thing we can never replace so why do so many people waste it?

17. No man is worth your tears and the one who is won't make you cry!

18. A woman is just as evil as the man she stands behind.

19. A real friend walks in when the rest of the world walks out.

20. I am a firm believer in the saying "Men lead the way and a woman chooses whether or not to follow" Sometimes standing behind your man is the hardest thing to do...but only you know that mans worth...does he know yours?

Our First Love

It has been said that in a person's lifetime, they will have only three opportunities to find that perfect match. Three people who may or may not come into one's life and make a difference, a change, or even an example. But what happens when the first one makes such a lasting impression, that one shuts themselves out to the rest of the world, never putting themselves into positions to meet those possible second and third hearts.

One's first love paves the way for their future outlook on relationships. That first experience can be the best thing that ever happened to a person, or it could break down one's entire perception on love and trust. I guess it depends on how strong the person was to begin with. Sharing your life with someone is, in my opinion, the wheels that makes the world turn. It is an experience that teaches us values, respect and compromise. Though, if and when that trust is broken, so is the person (s) involved. We as humans, learn to distrust everyone that brings us into that same situations, says the same things or acts in the same ways as that person who left us broken hearted.

Though, what happens when we, ourselves are at fault for breaking our own heart? Who do we distrust then? I've learned that when we become the culprit of self-heartbreak, we fall further victim of taking it out on the rest of the world. We become bitter and angry; isolated yet self-righteous. We tend to believe that we are much better off independent and single. Are we? Or is our human nature taking its natural course to avoid admitting we were at fault? A sad attempt to never be hurt again. In life everyone endures pain, but suffering is optional.

It amazes me how far (or how backwards) our own human nature could take us. How bright our smiles could shine while our hearts are ripping apart inside. We could waste years trying to replace what we once had only to realize that people could never be replaced. They are not materialistic aspects of life or even figment thoughts of our imagination. They are real.
